Dalhousie University Faculty of Engineering
Drawing up a blueprint for academic innovation
The Faculty of Engineering at Dalhousie University approached Half Twelve during an exciting period of transformation — one that included a $64m redevelopment of its downtown Halifax campus. To mark this new chapter, the Faculty commissioned a brochure to present its strategic plan, aimed at donors and prospective students and organized around four key goals that outlined its vision for the future.
“Thinkers & Doers” was the theme developed to reflect the fact that the staff and students didn’t limit themselves to traditional education in the classroom but actively engaged in real-world projects that affect Canadian industry. Designed as both a fundraising and recruitment tool, the brochure needed to inspire prospective students and donors alike. The cover image reinforced this message by showcasing the diversity of the Faculty’s student community.
Using specially commissioned photography and bold typography, each of the four visions opened with a portrait of a Faculty staff member and a quote that echoed the vision. Each section opener was then followed by articles about staff and students playing their part in helping the Faculty achieve its goals.
